Speak to Keith Carrier & Son about specialist lock manufacturing, repairs and replacement parts.
Bespoke Lock Manufacturing
Keith Carrier & Son provides specialist bespoke lock manufacturing for customers, locksmiths, contractors and heritage organisations across the UK and internationally.
Using traditional skills developed through decades of specialist locksmithing, we manufacture complete locks, handmade mechanisms and individual components when original parts are damaged, missing or no longer available. This can include reproducing historic locks, making replacement springs, levers and bolts, or creating an entirely bespoke mechanism for a specific application.
Our experience includes manufacturing and reproducing locks and components for historic houses, churches, castles, gates, antique furniture and listed buildings. Previous specialist projects have included the manufacture of locks for the gates at Buckingham Palace, as well as work associated with other important historic and heritage properties.
Where an original mechanism survives, we can use the lock, its individual components or existing patterns as a reference. This allows new parts to be carefully manufactured to replicate the construction, operation and appearance of the original while retaining as much historic material and craftsmanship as possible.
Repairing and Recreating Original Mechanisms
Historic locks were often built to be maintained and repaired rather than simply replaced. When a mechanism fails, the problem may be limited to a worn spring, damaged lever, broken bolt, missing ward or another individual component that can be recreated.
Keith Carrier & Son uses traditional locksmithing and hand manufacturing skills to restore these mechanisms to working order. Where original parts are damaged, missing or no longer manufactured, replacement components can be individually made using the existing lock, surviving parts or original patterns as a reference.
For mechanisms that have suffered more extensive damage, we can reproduce multiple components or recreate the lock while remaining faithful to its original construction and operation. This specialist work requires an understanding of how older locks were designed and how each handmade component interacts within the mechanism.
